About CRSP
We are animal people. More specifically, we are guinea pig people. Over the years, our family has raised numerous American (haired) guinea pigs.. babies and adults. In 2016, while sharing our home with three American guinea pigs, we acquired our very first skinny pig. Actually, my son fell in love with a sweet little baby skinny pig he named Lucy. He brought her home for his birthday. That is how it all began.
We quickly discovered skinny pigs are quite irresistible. You can't have just one. Besides the fact that they do much better in groups of two or more, they are addictive. After Lucy came home with my son, my daughter wanted a skinny pig.. well maybe two. After all, her birthday was also approaching. It wasn't long before my other children jumped on the bandwagon. They all wanted skinnies. Heck, mom wanted skinnies, too. And, so it really began...
After the creation of Lucy's very own Facebook page LUCY THE SKINNY PIG, our friends and family had questions about skinny pigs. Lots of questions. I was more than happy to talk about Lucy and skinny pigs in general, being I have been known to go on and on about them all day, every day! Lucy was the first skinny pig many had ever laid eyes on and, like us, they were instantly hooked. In addition to being curious about what special care skinnies may need, most wondered where we had gotten her from and where they could find skinnies for themselves.
Finding a skinny.. or better yet two.. to add to your family can be a bit of a challenge, depending on where you live. We ran into this problem in 2016, when realizing Lucy needed a skinny companion. As we searched locally for a friend for Lucy and came up empty-handed. There just wasn't many breeders in Oregon at that time, we learned of only 3 people who were breeding skinnies in Oregon.. and on a very low-scale. But, nobody had any available.
The more thought I put into it, the more I wanted to start my very own mini caviary.. right here in Brownsville, Oregon. A hobby the whole family could be involved with. That way, we could enjoy skinnies.. lots of skinnies, while giving Lucy friends to play and grow up with. At the same time, providing others in our area the opportunity to love and share their homes with these funny, affectionate, always inquisitive little creatures, as well. What could possibly be better than that?
After a whole lot of time, work, money.. and not to mention.. love, we have shared our special skinnies with families all over Oregon, and as far as the East coast! We are so proud to see our beautiful, sweet pigs bring joy to so many families over the past 5 years! Our "Castle Rock Skinny Pig Family" sure has grown. We now have skinnies in at least 21 US states and Canada!
